How to fold a pillowcase?
A pocket square is an extremely versatile accessory and can be folded in many ways. However, it is important to always maintain a touch of nonchalance. Even if you spent a few minutes arranging it in the breast pocket, it should look as if it was placed there effortlessly.
TV fold
The most formal and elegant way to fold a pocket square. A horizontal strip of fabric should be visible above the breast pocket. It’s worth ensuring that this line is not perfectly straight — remember, a touch of nonchalance! This fold is usually done with a white pocket square. It pairs perfectly with tuxedos and evening suits.
Puff
A less formal, yet one of the most common ways to fold a pocket square. To achieve this look, simply grab the pocket square at its center and place it smoothly into the breast pocket, making sure that no corners or edges are visible. This is one of the easiest methods and a great way to start your journey with pocket squares.
Puff hole
An interesting variation is the so-called “reverse puff” (also known as “hole puff”). To create this fold, place the pocket square on your palm and use a finger from the other hand to press down and create a hollow in the center. Then, just like with the standard puff fold, place the pocket square into the breast pocket.
Folded this way, the pocket square resembles a flower shape and adds a lot of casual elegance to the outfit.
Inverted puff
This is an even more striking way to fold a pocket square. The first steps are the same as with the standard puff method. However, when placing the pocket square into the breast pocket, you should turn it upside down, so that the corners stick out of the jacket pocket. The center of the pocket square can also remain visible.
Finally, arrange the corners to ensure they look neat and stylish
Macclesfield Silk
Located at the very end of the Silk Road, Macclesfield was once the center of the English weaving industry and the world’s largest silk producer.
Our pocket squares are printed by a company from a small village near Macclesfield. This company is a leader in producing luxury fabrics and accessories for men and women, combining tradition and technology — capable of both traditional screen printing and modern digital printing.
Although traditional printing techniques have become outdated, Balamonte pocket squares are still produced using classic methods, giving them the distinctive look associated with Macclesfield printing.
Balamonte pillowcase sizes
Most pocket squares available on the market come in 30 cm x 30 cm dimensions, which is mainly related to production efficiency (more squares can be made from one meter of fabric). However, at Balamonte, we prioritize quality, and our pocket squares measure 40 cm x 40 cm. This makes a huge practical difference — the larger size allows the pocket square to be better displayed in the breast pocket and prevents it from slipping down and disappearing inside the jacket pocket.
Hand hemming
Balamonte pocket squares are hand-rolled, giving them their distinctive finish. This makes our pocket squares products of the highest quality. The soft and delicate edge looks far more refined and attractive than a machine-stitched hem.
How to match a pillowcase with a tie?
When matching a pocket square to a tie, the contrast method works very well. For example, if the tie features large patterns, the pocket square should be plain or decorated with small patterns. When it comes to color matching, a good starting point is the similarity method — pairing a multicolored pocket square with a tie in one of the colors present in the pocket square. One of the biggest and most common mistakes when matching a tie and a pocket square is choosing both accessories in the same pattern or color. Accessories should complement each other, but not in an obvious or identical way.
