How to fold a pocket square?
A pocket square is an incredibly versatile accessory and can be folded in many ways. Each time, it’s important to ensure there’s at least a touch of nonchalance. Even if we’ve arranged it in the breast pocket for a few minutes, it should still look as though it was put in “carelessly.”

The most formal and elegant way to fold a pocket square is to have a horizontal strip of fabric sticking out of the breast pocket. It’s important to make sure it’s not perfectly even (nonchalance!). This fold is most often used with a white pocket square. It fits perfectly with tuxedos and evening suits.
Puff
A less formal, yet one of the most common ways to fold a pocket square. To do this, grab the pocket square by its center and with a quick motion, place it in the breast pocket so that the corners and edges of the handkerchief don’t stick out. This is one of the simpler methods, and it’s a great place to start your journey with pocket squares.
Leaky puff
An interesting variation is the so-called holey puff. In this method, the pocket square should be placed on the palm of the hand, and then, using the finger of the other hand, make an indentation in the center of the pocket square. Then, as in the case of the standard puff arrangement, insert the pocket square into the breast pocket. A pocket square folded in this way resembles a flower in shape and adds a lot of nonchalance to the styling.
Inverted puff
This is an even more spectacular arrangement of the pocket square. The first steps are identical to the standard puff method. However, when inserting the pocket square into the breast pocket, the pocket square should be turned upside down… with the corners sticking out of the jacket pocket. The center of the pocket square can also be visible. Finally, all that remains is to arrange the protruding corners so that they look aesthetically pleasing.
Macclesfield Silk
Situated at the end of the Silk Road, Macclesfield was once the centre of the English weaving industry and the world’s largest silk producer. Our pocket squares are printed by a company in a small village near Macclesfield. This company is a leader in the production of luxury fabrics and accessories for men and women. Combining tradition and technology, they are able to produce traditional screen printing and modern digital printing. Although traditional printing techniques have become obsolete, Balamonte pocket squares are produced using traditional methods and have the distinctive look associated with the Macclesfield print.
Balamonte pocket squares size
Most pocket squares on the market are available in dimensions of 30 cm x 30 cm, which is related to production efficiency (more pocket squares can be made from one running meter). However, at Balamonte we value quality and our pocket squares are 40 cm x 40 cm. This has great practical significance. The larger size of the pocket square allows for much better exposure in the breast pocket and prevents the handkerchief from hiding in the jacket pocket.
Hand stitched
Balamonte pocket squares are hand-stitched with a characteristic rolling. This makes our pocket squares the highest quality products. The soft and delicate edge of the handkerchief looks much more attractive than the one sewn by machine.
How to match a pocket square to your tie?
When choosing a pocket square to go with a tie, the contrast method works great. For example, if the tie has large patterns, the pocket square should be plain or decorated with small patterns. When choosing colors, it is worth starting with the similarity method and choosing a tie in one of the colors on the square for a multi-colored pocket square. One of the biggest and most common mistakes made when choosing a tie and pocket square is using both accessories in the same pattern or color. The accessories should match each other, but not in such an obvious way.
